fitting the back
Using the paper template that was used to glue back braces on, I made a halo template from 1/4 inch plywood.
First used on the back to locate where to trim the braces, then inverted on the body to locate the mortis cuts.
I mark off the line from the halo template, cut with a fine saw and use a chisel flat.
I’ve beveled the rim with a small block plane.
I’ll mark where to mortis.
A quick check and then I will use a Dremel tool with a plunge base to cut in the mortis.
I will clean it up a little with a sharp chisel.
A look inside to fine tune the fit,
Set up in a spindle jig an use a 12 foot radius sanding block to bevel the rim.
Rubber bands will hold it in place to check the fit.
Its pretty much ready to glue, I will double check the fit one more time before I glue up.
So fun to see the step by step – can’t wait to see the finished product – betcha there are lots more steps. Nice worK!
